ALTAMONT — Frank Anthony Corradi of Altamont “went peacefully to be with our Lord on Monday, July 12, 2021,” his family said. He was 90.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1930, and was raised in Rotterdam, New York.

Mr. Corradi graduated as president of his senior class from Draper High School in 1948, before attending Siena College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he studied civil engineering and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He served honorably and proudly in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

“Frank was well known in the residential home building and remodeling industry,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He learned the carpentry trade growing up in the family lumberyard business, The Corradi Lumberyard, where he handcrafted windows, doors, and trim molding.

“At the young age of 16, Frank was left in charge to build three homes over the summer while his parents traveled in Italy. The family built many homes in the Bellevue area including Colonial Manor. Within the Tri-City area, Frank served as the project superintendent for Beverwyck and Lake Shore Apartments; Southgate, Woodgate and Commons of East Greenbush Condominiums; and the Ellis Hospital Parking Garage.

“Frank also worked for many years as a civil engineer with the New York State Department of Transportation, designing roads and highways.

“Frank enjoyed teaching the carpentry craft to the young up-and-coming tradesmen and in later life shared his knowledge as an instructor of carpentry at the Capital District Equal Opportunity Center of Hudson Valley Community College, at Habitat for Humanity in Albany, and at Coxsackie Correctional Facility.

“Frank also volunteered to help remodel the Altamont train station into the beautiful Altamont library and was later awarded a certificate for ‘Excellence in Historic Preservation.’

“Frank’s many pleasures included following the activities and adventures of his grandchildren; visiting with friends and family; fishing; cooking; gardening; sharing his bread, cookie, and dinner recipes; following Syracuse basketball, the New York Yankees, and Dustin Johnson, PGA golfer.

“Frank and Jane bought a 100-year-old home in the village of Altamont in 1999 and Frank added many beautiful features to the home, including a Victorian-style bay window and fireplace mantel. Frank loved living in Altamont and enjoyed the friendship of their wonderful neighbors over the years.”

 Frank Anthony Corradi is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jane E. Corradi; daughter, Mrs. Laura Corradi Wade and her husband, Dr. Michael Donald Wade, of Columbia, South Carolina; son, Mr. Anthony Harold Corradi and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth McKernan Corradi of Altamont; grandson, Mr. Michael Anthony Wade of Salt Lake City, Utah; granddaughter, Ms. Alexandra Ann Hanson Wade of Columbia, South Carolina; mother-in-law, Mrs. Lucy Spongberg; and father-in-law, Mr. Gary Spongberg of Niskayuna; brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen R. Cuddy; and sister-in-law, Dr. Mary Linda Cuddy of Collierville, Tennessee; friend to Frank and mother to Laura and Anthony, Ms. Beverley Evelyn Corradi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

“Frank leaves behind his treasured basset hound, Bacci, who always made him laugh and was a constant companion,” his family wrote.

His parents, Mrs. Santa and Mr. Antonio Corradi, died before him, as did and his younger brother, Mr. Nino Corradi Sr., and sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Jean Rockwell Corradi.

“Frank’s legacy will live on in the lives of his treasured family members,” his family wrote.

Fredendall Funeral Home of Altamont will host calling hours from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow on Saturday, July 24. After a private military funeral on July 26, interment will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.

His family thanks “the many neighbors, caregivers, and aids over the years who helped and visited with Frank, to include most recently Kaitlyn Butler, Christine Marriner, Susan Bardin, and Community Hospice.”
