Stephen P. Durant

ALTAMONT — Stephen P. Durant of Altamont, an ironworker with a passion for the outdoors, died on Friday, June 11, 2021. He was 75.
A graduate of Mohonasen High School and Utica College, Mr. Durant went to work for and retired from the Iron Workers Local Union 12 in Albany.

“He had a passion for the outdoors and participated in bird dog field trials with English setters and Tennessee walking horses,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was an avid fisherman, and loved spending family time on Saratoga Lake.”

He was a lifelong member of the Rotterdam Elks Club and Rotterdam Eagles. 

His parents, Ernest and Rachel Durant, who had lived in Rotterdam, New York and Cocoa Beach, Florida, died before him as did two sisters, Justine (Doug) Smith, and Diane (John) Patterson.

He is survived by the love of his life, Roberta Sheldon, and by his three children, KellyAnn Durant (Quay), Kimberly Durant, and Daniel (Erin) Durant.

He was able to be blessed to share his life with three grandchildren: Jesse and Conner Quay, and Hayden Durant; and several nieces and nephews: Michelle (Thomas) Tierney, Michael (Cindy) Miller, Scott (Liz) Patterson, and Jill (Rich) Karwan.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home inAltamont.
