The Weises celebrate 70 married years
Joan and Walter Weis will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on April 14. They met while attending Albany High School in the 1940s. Joan, who knew Walter was “the one” from the very beginning, often quips, “I chased him until he caught me.”
They were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Albany in 1951 and have spent most of their marriage in the Capital Region. Walter worked for the New York Central Railroad, followed by more than 30 years at the New York Telephone Company.
After they raised their three children, Joan obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Albany and worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for more than 20 years (not to mention serving as a cashier, waitress, and real estate agent before and during school).
In addition to their three children (two of whom reside in the Capital Region), they are the loving grandparents to nine grandchildren (two of whom reside in the Capital Region) and great-grandparents to eight great-grandchildren.
Faithful attendees of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Colonie for more than 45 years, Joan and Walter are united by their faith in the Lord. They still do everything together, and remain sweethearts and the best of friends.
