ALTAMONT — Patricia J. Tregaskis of Altamont was a “helper to all who needed a nurse’s wisdom and care,” her family wrote in a tribute. She died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021. She was 87.

She was born in Brantford, Ontario, on March 10, 1933. She graduated from Brantford Collegiate Institute and Brantford General Hospital School of Nursing, and received her Bachelor of Science degree at Nyack College, in Nyack, New York, in 1959.

She was employed at the Nyack Hospital and retired as shift supervisor from the Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany after 20 years of service. She also served as camp nurse at various summer camps as well as the Altamont Fair nurse for several years.

She was a member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Guilderland.

“Patricia enjoyed hiking the Adirondack Mountains, touring the United States and Canada on her husband’s motorcycle, and listening to classical music,” her family wrote. “She appreciated the beauty of the natural world, especially wild birds.

“Patricia was a talented pianist who delighted those around her when playing hymns by heart; she claimed the music was written on the walls of her memory. She was faithful to family, friends and canine pets; a helper to all who needed a nurse’s wisdom and care, and a steadfast follower of Jesus Christ.”

She was the devoted wife of the late George K. Tregaskis and loving mother of David K. Tregaskis. She is also survived by her brother, Paul W. Harris, of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Carol Avery, of Stonewall Manitoba, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. Her infant daughter, Naomi Joy, died before her.
