NEW SCOTLAND — A one-story house on Pangburn Road caught fire on Monday, Aug. 17.

According to a release from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, events unfolded this way:

At 12:28 a.m., an off-duty deputy was on his way home and saw a large fire near Delaware Turnpike in New Scotland. As he checked the area, he found the house on Pangburn Road largely engulfed in flames. He was able to make partial entry into the house and determined that it was unoccupied. 

Members of the Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze. They were helped by crews with the North Bethlehem, Delmar, New Salem, and Berne fire departments as well as the sheriff’s fire coordinator and paramedics.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office and New York State Fire will be looking into the cause of the fire, which was unknown at press time.
