BBQ Smoked to open in Guilderland

The pulled-pork and smoked-chicken sandwiches at Smoked: Southern-Style BBQ are both, according to a “sneak peek” of the menu posted on Facebook, “dry-rubbed w/ our spices and smoked for hours.”
GUILDERLAND — Smoked: Southern-Style BBQ plans a summer opening in Guilderland, according to its recently launched Facebook page.
It is scouting Guilderland locations on Route 20, a representative told The Enterprise via text.
The owners have lived previously in Guilderland and in the Altamont/Knox area for a while, said the representative, declining to identify the owners.
The owners feel that Guilderland “is the perfect area that is lacking good BBQ options,” the representative said.
Smoked: Southern-Style BBQ is a “new modern southern BBQ style restaurant” and would offer, according to its Facebook page, food varying from “classic smoked meats and sides, to buttermilk fried chicken and breakfast fare.”
The menu will feature, the page says, “our award-winning smoked brisket, creamy mac and cheese, classic greens and new style BBQ breakfast sandwiches.” It will strive, it says, to use fresh and local ingredients from local farmers.
A “sneak peek” of the smoked meat portion of the menu lists smoked brisket BBQ, pulled pork BBQ, smoked chicken BBQ, pulled chicken, smoked ribs BBQ, and buttermilk fried chicken.
It also lists these sides: sweet potato casserole, mac and cheese, coleslaw, maple cornbread, hand out fries, jalapeño cheddar cornbread, simmered greens, grilled corn salad, creamed spinach, baked beans, potato salad, and charred broccoli.
Chico’s BBQ at 2490 Western Ave., across from Governors Motor Inn in western Guilderland, has been empty for about a decade, but is not for sale. The owners are up-to-date on their property taxes, town assessor Karen Van Wagenen told The Enterprise earlier.
