Photos: Swimming with New York's Best
Among the state’s top 500, swimmers from Guilderville, made up of Guilderland and Voorheesville students, and Helderberg Valley, made up of Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Duanesburg students, put their talents against the best swimmers from all over New York this weekend at Ithaca College. The preliminaries were on Friday, and Saturday were the finals.

Ready to leap: Guilderville's Ellie Lashway prepares to leap into the final leg of the 200-yard medley relay as Rachel Lai, and Kasey Keaney look on after swimming their legs. The relay team — which also included Sommo — finished ninth in its heat with a time of 1:55.05 for 40th overall.

Battling through the water: Guilderville's Kasey Keaney also swam in two individual events on the first day. Keaney swims the backstroke portion of the 200-yard individual medley where she finished seventh in her heat with a time of 2:10.08, qualifying for the finals. On Saturday, she finished 22nd overall with a time of 2:09.31. Keaney also finished 26th overall in the breaststroke with a time of 1:07.37.

Bubble effect: Helderberg Valley’s Abigael O’Donnell blows a stream of bubbles from her nose as she comes up from under the water at the start of the 100-yard backstroke preliminary event on Friday at Ithaca College for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships. O’Donnell finished 10th in her heat at a time of 59.94 but didn’t qualify for Saturday’s finals and finished 38th overall.
