I will not sell out the voters or let them down

To the Editor:

I would like to extend my sincere, heartfelt thanks to the many residents who voted for me for a seat on the Guilderland Town Board in last week’s election, as well as to all those on my campaign committee who worked so tirelessly to help elect me.

I could not have done this alone. It’s been a long road.

I am not a politician; I am simply a life-long resident of Guilderland who decided to jump in and try to help people and make a positive change.

This was truly a grassroots movement and, over the last several months, I tried to personally reach as many of the voters as I possibly could with my message of protecting the environment, giving the residents a real valued voice in their town, and curbing some of the recent overreach of development so as to hold onto the character of Guilderland as a small town, with diversity and opportunity for everyone.

I am glad this message resonated with so many, and I thank each and every person who traveled to the polls to cast their vote for me. I am truly humbled and grateful for your show of support. I promise to never forget that I am here because of the residents, and accountable directly to them.  I will always remember the trust they have put in me, and will not let them down.

I work for you, not for any special interest group, large donor, or political machine. I consider what the voters have given to me as a sacred trust, and I will not sell out or let them down.

Now the real journey begins. I am counting on the residents to please continue to keep the lines of communication open and contact me anytime to let me know what issues are important to you (at bohlforguilderland@gmail.com).

I promise likewise to do my best to keep the channels of communication open between you and the town hall. Above all, I want to help people, and to keep Guilderland a town where people of all faiths, races, backgrounds, and economic levels can live and work, coexisting with a deep respect and appreciation for the natural beauty of this little town we all love so much.

Laurel Bohl
