Altamont Enterprise August 29, 1919
Golden-Blessing.
The marriage of Mrs. Bertha M. Blessing of Lawson’s Lake and Asa B. Golden of 804 Tyler street, Pittsfield, Mass., took place in Albany, Saturday, August 23. The groom has recently been honorably discharged from the United States army, having served over a year in France. Their many friends wish them good luck and prosperity. They will reside at 42 Plunkett street, Pittsfield. Mr. Golden is employed by the General Electric company at Pittsfield.
[The nuptials were preceded by a family quarrel that played out in the opinion pages of The Enterprise over several weeks, after Bertha Blessing sent in her own engagement announcement on Aug. 1, 1919:]
“Mrs. Bertha Blessing announces her engagement to Private Asa B. Golden, who has just arrived from France. The wedding will take place in the early fall. Both are well known in the surrounding vicinity, and have many friends, all of whom wish them a long and happy wedding life. After the wedding they will reside in Pittsfield, Mass.”
[The next week, on Aug. 8, Asa B. Golden’s father, Frank Golden, wrote:]
“Mr. Editor: I am somewhat surprised, to say the least at the enclosed announcement in the last issue of the Enterprise. My son does not contemplate matrimony with any one at present, certainly not with a widow with eight children. The ladies have the right of suffrage, but it is a little out of order to marry a man without his knowledge or consent. It always takes two to make a bargain. Kindly make room for this in your columns this week.”
[The following week, on Aug. 15, “another correction” arrived, from Asa B. Golden:]
Lawson’s Lake, N. Y.
Altamont Enterprise: The correction under the Lawson’s Lake items last week is absolutely without foundation. I think I am of age, and can manage my own affairs without any assistance from any one. Please make room for this in your columns. — ASA B. GOLDEN
VOORHEESVILLE.

Our road patrolman, Adam Hotaling, is making many improvements to the highway in this vicinity by putting on fine gravel at the sides, giving horses a chance to stand up where it was almost impossible to do so before.
