GUILDERLAND CENTER — Charlotte Mae (née LaPine) Lawton was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had been active in many community organizations. She died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91.

Born in Elizabethtown, New York on March 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Hilda LaPine.

She graduated from Elizabethtown High School, and then attended Albany Business College. She married Donald “K” Lawton on June 1, 1947.

She was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 2480, Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Helderberg Reformed Church, and the Guilderland Center Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a Veterans Affairs Hospital volunteer.

Mrs. Lawton was employed by the Tom Sawyer Motor Inn, Master Cleaners, and Guilderland Center Nursing Home.

She spent the last five years in Queensbury, New York near her daughters.

Charlotte Lawton is survived by her two daughters and daughter-in-law, Sandra Lowder and her husband, Gavin, Andrea James and her husband, William, and Nancy Lawton; and by her seven grandchildren, Eric Lowder and his wife, Lisa, Mark Lowder, Sarah Hutchings and her husband, William, Adam James and Danielle Dauber, Dirck James and his wife, Whitney, Trina Schanz and her husband, Steve, and Pamela Woloszyn and her husband, John.

She is also survived by her nine great-grandchildren, Erica and Gavin Lowder, Lily and William Hutchings, Dirck and Carter James, Alexis and Lawton Schanz, and Craig Woloszyn; by her sister-in-law, Marion Lawton; by her niece Joy Sacco and her husband, John; and by her nephews Bill Lawton and his wife, Barb, and Tom Lawton and his wife, Patty.

Her husband, Donald “K” Lawton, died before her, as did her son, Douglas Craig Lawton.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main Street in Altamont on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will follow immediately at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service in the Fairview Cemetery.
