Five injured in Route 20 crash

GUILDERLAND — On Wednesday morning, two cars collided on Route 20, at its intersection with Windingbrook Drive, sending five people to Albany Medical Center, with apparently serious injuries, according to a release from the Guilderland Police.

All those injured were in a car, heading east on Route 20, which made a left turn into the path of a car traveling west, the release said. The car heading east was driven by a 36-year-old Albany woman with four passengers, ages 37, 17, 16, and 11.

“Their current condition is unknown at this time,” the Thursday morning release said.

The driver of the westbound car, a 17-year-old Guilderland man, was treated on scene and released with apparent minor injuries, the release said. He had no passengers in his car.

The investigation is ongoing but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, the release said.

The Guilderland Police Department was assisted by members of the New York State Police, Department of Environmental Conservation Police, Westmere Fire Department, Guilderland Fire Department, Guilderland Emergency Medical Services, Rotterdam EMS, and Albany County EMS.​
