William Howard Moore

RENSSELAERVILLE — William Howard Moore lived most of his life in Medusa. His son, Dennison, called him “a man of the community.”

He created a museum to preserve Medusa’s history, wrote a column about the hamlet’s happenings, played the organ in its church, and served in its volunteer fire company.

He died on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was 74.

Known as Bill, he was born on Oct. 7, 1944, in Catskill, the son of the late Marjorie (née Britton) and Leslie Moore.

He worked as an engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation and as a school bus driver for the Greenville central schools and was a carpenter and painter.

Moreover, he operated the Sugar Bush Shop in Medusa, and played the organ at the United Church of Christ in Medusa since 1978.

He served the community by writing the “Medusa Happenings” column for the Greenville Local, Press, and Pioneer newspapers; being a member and trustee of the Rensselaerville Historical Society; and being the driving force for the History of Medusa Museum located in the Medusa United Church of Christ.

He was a member and past president of the Rensselaerville Seniors Club, member of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company, serving as secretary and bingo chairman, and an assessor for the Town of Rensselaerville.
