Single-car crash on Crossgates ramp is fatal

GUILDERLAND — Julie White, a McKownville resident, was killed on July 9 when her car hit a guide rail on Interstate 87 on the Crossgates Mall ramp.

White, 41, was a registered nurse who loved cats and volunteered at animal shelters (see obituary pages.)

White, who lived on McKown Road, took the exit for the mall, and a press officer for the New York State Police said it is speculated that she changed her mind at the last minute and made a sharp turn to get off of the ramp.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and she had no passengers in her car.

She lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a guide rail, which sent her car airborne; the collision with the guide rail had damaged the bottom of her car, including the fuel tank, and, when the car came to rest, it was immediately engulfed in flames.

Police do not believe that speeding or alcohol were factors in the accident.
