Chamber to present awards at gala

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce will present this year’s Annual Business Awards at its 46th Annual Awards Dinner and Gala on June 2 at the Albany Country Club, The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m.

Small-Business Person of the Year is Vikki Moran, owner of Capital Region Living Magazine. Her staff wrote in the nomination: “Vikki is a true believer in the Capital Region. As a lifelong resident, she knows what a very special place we have here. She is dedicated to supporting and promoting local businesses. At Capital Region Living Magazine, she has implemented new programs to help these businesses grow and thrive.”

Chamber Champion is Stephen Hout, branch manager of Key Bank in Guilderland. Hout has served as an ambassador for the chamber and has gone beyond expectations. “He has been diligent about attending meetings, ribbon-cuttings, and networking events, and promoting the chamber to everyone he meets with!” the chamber wrote in a release. “The chamber is very grateful for all of Steve’s efforts and dedication.”

Best Place to Work is the Ten Eyck Group. The nomination from staff states: “Ten Eyck Group can attribute a large portion of our success to the amazing office culture that has been created through the mutual efforts of staff and management ... While we take our work very serious, we also understand the importance of having a good time! We often have potluck lunches, out-of-work gathers, a summer outing, and other events throughout the year to keep work fun. These efforts have a great impact on the overall success off the business.”

Award of Merit goes to the State Employees Federal Credit Union for its generous donation of funds and food for the opening ceremony for our Hometown Heroes Banner Project and the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall Display.  As the major sponsor for the wall, SEFCU enabled the American Legion Riders to bring the Wall to Guilderland’s Tawasentha Park. SEFCU also had food delivered to the veterans who stayed with the display for five days!

The Town of Guilderland Beautification Award winners are:

— Best Interior Renovation: Nirvana Indian Restaurant, Bar and Banquet. After being closed for almost a year due to a terrible kitchen fire, the restaurant has reopened with a new interior, banquet hall, and patio.  “During the busy summer months, customers can sit outside on our patio and we will offer a special summer menu, exotic drinks, as well as non-alcoholic options,” Nirvana stated. “The patio setting will be a fun and casual atmosphere for the summer”;

— Worth a Detour: Veronica’s Culinary Tavern in Altamont was renovated and renamed last year when Peter Blackman took ownership. He has added to the menu, including “The 1-8-6 Happy Hour” and a wide variety of specials including great burgers and wood-fired pizzas. The interior has been enhanced and the beautiful patio is open during the better weather, which makes a great place to enjoy the Tuesday Summer Concerts in the park across the street;

— Best Overall: Spa Mirbeau Crossgates has opened a beautiful relaxing day spa on the upper level of Crossgates Mall, with extensive additions that include an extensive menu of spa treatments, a resting area with a meditation pool and fireplace, an aqua terrace with an oversized hot plunge pool and bar, sauna and steam rooms, a spinning room, and fitness and yoga studio. Spa Mirbeau also features a retail boutique and Le Bistro, a French-inspired bistro serving light fare and wine.
