Thomas Hoose Smith

RENSSELAERVILLE — Thomas Hoose Smith, a veteran from Rensselaerville, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Berkshire Rehabilitation Center in Sandisfield, Massachusetts. He was 69.

He is survived by his daughter Chasity McGivern and her husband, John, of Knox; his son, Che Smith of Berne; and his former wife, Cheryl Schmidt. He also leaves five grandchildren, John Todd McGivern from Knox, Thomas Che, Amanda, Patrick, and Meaghan Smith from Herkimer; and his siblings, Laurie Lee Pearson and Jamie Smith.

His brother, Roland Smith, died before him.

The family gives its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Berkshire Rehabilitation Center especially Carla and Shelby. “You meant the world to him,” the family wrote.

Burial with military honors will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 200 Duell Road in Schuylerville, New York.
