BERNE.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sholtes have returned home after spending their honeymoon with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Zeh, in the Adirondack mountains. With a party at Effner Lake they took a deer and had the pleasure of eating a venison dinner.

NEW SALEM.

Clinton E. Young, who recently enlisted in the 20th Engineers, writes he is very comfortably situated at Fort Slocum. He has a tub bath every day, lots of good things to eat and wear, and is housed in a clean, sanitary place.

NEW SCOTLAND.

The Missionary barrel of clothing was not packed last week because there were not enough articles to fill it. It is still waiting for more contributions.

WEST BERNE.

Thursday and Friday of this week will close the cider making season at Haverly’s mill.

GUILDERLAND CENTER.

We were glad to see Peter Jacobson at Sunday school and church again.

VILLAGE NOTES.

— The New York Telephone company has had men at work in Altamont this week removing all the old lines of telephone wire throughout the village. The entire lot will be taken to Albany and sold for junk. The removal of so many single wires and the taking down of the poles, helps clear up the general appearance of the town. A good job is being done. All the telephone wires in use in Altamont at present are now contained in the cables which are strung on the electric light poles.

— An illustrated lecture will be given at the Reformed church on Tuesday evening, Nov. 27, by the Rev. J. Addison Jones, D. D., pastor of the Madison Avenue Reformed church of Albany. Dr. Jones made a world tour a few years ago, spending some time in Japan. Japan is at this time of special interest to us of the United States, and it is well for us to know of the country and the life of the people. Dr. Jones has a splendid collection of views and is one of the most interesting of lecturers.
