GUILDERLAND — Frances Halsdorf, an “all-seasons person,” according to her family, died peacefully on April 7, 2014, just three days after celebrating her 99th birthday.

Mrs. Halsdorf was born Frances Aldershoff in Rotterdam on April 4, 1915, to immigrant parents, Henry D. Aldershoff and Anna (née Zderadicka) Aldershoff. She attended the Draper School.

On June 9, 1935, she married Frederick S. Halsdorf, and the two enjoyed 48 years of marriage, which ended only with his death in 1983.

“Aunt Frankie” or “Aunt Fran” as she was “adoringly known by all that knew her,” wrote her family in a tribute, led a full and rewarding life.

Enjoying all seasons, in the spring she planted her garden; in the summer, you could find her fishing in the creek behind her house for her famous eels, or on the Great Sacandaga Lake for her walleyes; fall found her picking apples on the Aldershoff farm; winter would have her bringing out her skis and skates until she was well into her 80s.

She also had a great love for bowling and played on several leagues.

“In between, she always had time to care for ill family and friends, and to keep the household going,” wrote her family.

Holidays were filled with homemade canned goods that were second to none and grown in her garden.

Flowers were also very prominent at all functions, and she took great pride in growing them in her garden, her family wrote.

She enjoyed attending events with the Guilderland Senior Citizens and was a member of the Altamont Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8692 and the Guilderland Historical Society.

The family extends its sincere appreciation to the staff at the Guilderland Center Nursing home and a special thanks to the staff on B-wing for compassionate care.

Mrs. Halsdorf is survived by her sister, Mary Relyea, and her brother, Garrett J. Aldershoff, both of Rotterdam, and her cousin, Adeline Dyczko, of Guilderland. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

In addition to her husband, her sisters, Elsie Hansen and Anna Adams, died before her, as did her brothers, Henry F. Aldershoff and John K. Aldershoff, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, April 12, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main St. in Altamont. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
