All Lefkaditis has accomplished is dividing our town

To the Editor:

As our town elections near, I feel it is important to let voters know about the current town of Knox supervisor through my eyes, my interactions, and my time spent on the town board.

As with many town board meetings, there are rarely a lot of people in attendance. Since our current supervisor has been in office, the board meetings have been nothing but out of control, a war of words, and a platform for the supervisor to defame, insult, yell, and threaten town residents and board members.

He has quite often insulted planning and zoning board members as well as any decisions they make. He quite often said our zoning laws are a joke.

These actions and words are an insult to town residents and to those residents who developed these laws and regulations for the town of Knox.

The current town supervisor threatens to sue the town board and our town lawyer and likes to tell the town board how he likes to, as he says, beat up our vendors for lower prices. We are all for lower prices, but these requests should be handled appropriately.

The supervisor is representing the town of Knox. I once witnessed the current supervisor bully our current town clerk.

Everything is about him; the rest of the board is always wrong. These actions remind me of a little child who can’t have his or her way.   It is embarrassing that this supervisor is representing the town of Knox.

Two years ago, when the current supervisor ran for office, he made many promises to a lot of Knox voters. He has done nothing. He just wanted your vote.

Instead of valuing Knox, he complains about everything good in our town. He once claimed to be the town’s CEO [chief executive officer]; of course, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. He is the town’s CFO [chief financial officer]. Big difference.

He also likes to address you as, “hey, bro” or “hey, brother.” Sorry, we don’t talk like that around here.

We are neighbors helping neighbors and have always gotten along or been able to work things out peacefully while keeping our town rural with open spaces in mind. This is what draws people to live here, after all.

I will say the only thing he has accomplished is dividing our town and its residents.

Amy Porkorny is level-headed and non-confrontational, as well as an involved volunteer in our town. (Her qualifications are too many to list here, but are all on her website.) She is a person who will work with you and for you. I support Amy and I hope you will as well.

Dennis Barber, member

Knox Town Board

Editor’s note: Dennis Barber is a Democratic member of the Knox Town Board, not up for re-election this year. Councilwoman Amy Pokorny is running on the Democratic line against the incumbent supervisor, Vasilios Lefkaditis, who is running on the Republican line.
