Three local residents taken to hospital after head-on crash in New Scotland

NEW SCOTLAND — Three area residents were injured Wednesday when two vehicles collided head-on and a third crashed while trying to avoid the accident along State Farm Road.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office reported one driver, Joseph Deangelis 85, of Slingerlands and his passenger, Ascenza Deangelis 76, also of Slingerlands, were transported by ambulance to the Albany Medical Center with the most serious injuries, stating only that the two had “multiple injuries.”

Another driver, Marion B. Parmenter, 70, of Voorheesville was also taken to the Albany Medical Center by the Voorheesville ambulance “for evaluation and minor injuries,” said the office in a statement.

Police said the accident occurred July 17 at about 11:56 a.m. when a southbound vehicle driven by Parmenter entered the opposite northbound lane, striking Deangelis’s vehicle head-on.

A third, northbound vehicle following behind Deangelis was driven by Carol Monterosso, 64, of Voorheesville. She swerved to avoid the crash but ended up colliding with Deangelis’s vehicle as it spun out of control from the initial crash.  She told police she was not injured.

The vehicles driven by Deangelis and Parmenter suffered “extensive damage,” reported the sheriff’s office.

The office is still investigating the cause of the collision and no tickets had been issued as of press time Wednesday.

  • “When they got here, the roof was on fire. They knocked it down fast. Nobody was home. So everybody’s safe and sound, just property damage,” Thomas Cascone, Voorheesville’s fire chief, told the media at the scene.

  • The plan will now be folded into the town’s 2018 comprehensive plan and “used as a reference tool in the development, management, and protection of New Scotland’s natural resources, and in making future land use decisions,” the resolution adopting the plan states.
