Voorheesville needs a family-friendly restaurant
To the Editor:
We have lived in Voorheesville for over a year now, and each day we pass Smitty’s Tavern looking forlorn and abandoned as it sits next to the Vly Creek. We love this quaint and vibrant town — it’s people and their spirit, and all that small-town life has to offer.
But there is something missing — a big something for us. Voorheesville is sadly in need of a restaurant or tavern where folks can go to grab a bite to eat, enjoy an adult beverage, and meet with friends and neighbors.
I am sure we are not the only ones who would love to have a local, family-friendly restaurant and not have to jump in the car and drive to Delmar or Altamont or Guilderland for an evening out. Voorheesville and the surrounding communities have sufficient population and resources to support an eatery — one that would be open during the evenings for dinner and drinks.
What a great business opportunity for some enterprising person! I only hope if this does happen, it won’t mean the invasion of any of the “chain” restaurants which by and large represent a growing trend toward acceptance of mediocrity.
Let’s keep Voorheesville special!
