Altamont Extreme Auto repairs small engines
and large as pros take care of cars from Hyundais to Ferraris

ALTAMONT — Altamont Extreme Auto does it all, according to new owners Geoffrey Brown and Kevin Willsey, from sharpening mower blades to customizing hot rods. The new shop offers maintenance on farm equipment, 24-hour towing, and sandblasting for custom work in its body shop.

Altamont Extreme Auto opened in November in the former Ron’s Service Center building on Main Street, near Village Hall.

“We welcome all customers — new customers, old customers. No job’s too small, we do it all,” Brown said.

Brown, who solely owns and continues to run Sundown Lawn and Landscape, Inc., said, “The landscaping business is bigger and better than ever.” He uses his experience with landscaping to handle home, farm, lawn, and garden equipment repair and maintenance at the new shop.

His Altamont Extreme Auto partner, Willsey, oversees the automotive details.

“We know there’s a need for an auto service center in Altamont,” Brown said. “We have top-notch Automotive Service Excellence-certified mechanics” who offer “fully-licensed inspections on cars, trucks, and motorcycles. A one-stop shop,” he said.

Willsey attended Hudson Valley Community College and studied automotive repair.

“I was hand-picked by BMW to represent them in the New York Auto Show…in New York City [in 2001]. I placed third in the nation against Canada and Germany and teams from each state,” Willsey said. “I have multiple awards from the EPA,” he said, referring to the Environmental Protection Agency.

“I will be basically assisting with the lawn and garden and small engine repair — chainsaws, lawn mower, snow blowers,” Brown said. “We’re going to be a small engine clinic with complete repairs and maintenance.”

Altamont Extreme Auto is not a “run-of-the-mill” repair shop, Brown said.

“We can do everything, from a Hyundai to a Ferrari,” Willsey said.

“Our mission statement is to provide the general public with quality fair, honest, dependable service for all their automotive needs,” Brown said. “We fix it right the first time.”

“Or make it better,” Willsey said.

The partners reduced the labor rate from $80 per hour, when the service center was run by the previous owner, to $70 per hour “to be more competitive with surrounding shops in the area,” Brown said.

“To make it easier for everybody to come here,” Willsey added.

“We will be upgrading the center year to year,” he said. “Right now, we have facilities to service motorcycles.” Altamont Extreme Auto also offers custom lift kits for customers who want to improve their trucks.

“That’s custom work we do,” Willsey said. In the spring, he said, the shop will begin spraying truck-bed liners. Willsey stressed, however, that the shop handles all types of automotive work.

“We plan on being here a long, long time,” Brown said.

“And, there’s more to come,” Willsey concluded.
