GUILDERLAND — Two bank robberies, which took place a half-mile and 10 days apart, are likely to have the same suspect.

A white woman with dark hair, about 30 years old, who weighs about 125 pounds and stands about 5 feet, 6 inches tall was seen leaving each bank, according to Guilderland Police. 

At about 3:30 in the afternoon on July 9, a woman entered the First National Bank of Scotia at 8 New Karner Rd. where she implied that she had a weapon, though never produced one, and demanded money, said Sergeant Gary Lee.  As she fled the building towards Walgreen’s, she dropped some of the cash, which was marked by ink from a dye pack that likely exploded, according to police.  She was wearing black sunglasses, a baseball cap, a white shirt, gray shorts, and flip-flops, police say.

Ten days later, at about 1 in the afternoon, a woman entered the Pioneer Savings Bank at 1873 Western Avenue and displayed a black, semi-automatic handgun before demanding money, police say.  This time, she was again wearing dark sunglasses, flip-flops, and a light blouse, but with a large “sombrero” sun hat and a long “flowing skirt,” police say.

“There are a lot of similarities,” Lee said of the two robberies.  So far, police have followed several leads, though all have proven fruitless, he said.  Police aren’t releasing the amount of money stolen because the investigation is ongoing, Lee said.
