SCHENECTADY — Christopher Neil Morrett, an outdoorsman and custom sign-maker, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Ellis Hospital. He was 48.

Mr. Morrett was born in Niskayuna, the son of Donald Morrett, of Schenectady, and the late Marion (née Borst) Morrett.

He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, and was the owner of Morrett Custom Signs for over 20 years. He had worked for Charles McCabe, a mentor, friend, and teacher, and together the pair created signs for the Altamont Fair.

“He was trained by Charlie,” said Marie McMillen, director of the Altamont Fair. “Then he took over and he was so wonderful, and cooperative; he painted our signs for more than a decade.”

Mr. Morrett was a member of the Woodlawn Gun Club, and the Guan-Ho-Ha Gun Club, and was a safety instructor for firearms.

He was an avid bodybuilder, an animal lover, and enjoyed fishing.

He loved his canine companions, Noel and Buster.

He is survived by his father, Donald Morrett; his sister, Debi Beranek, and her husband, John, of Burnt Hills; his brother, Paul Morrett, and his wife, Marcia, of Glenville; his aunt and uncle, Emily Smith, and her husband, Robert, of Schenectady; his niece, Jessica Beranek; and a great-nephew, Deklan Yaw.

A funeral was held on Jan. 22, at the Bond Funeral Home, Inc., in Schenectady. Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
