Recent visit to Knox Cemetery finds stone disintegrating

To the Editor,

I recently was up to the Knox Cemetery checking on ancestors’ stones. I found Philip Schermerhorn and wife Margaret Ann Truax’s stone to be disintegrating.

Philip was the son of John I. and Rosina Shultes Schermerhorn, who was the son of John L. Schermerhorn, who fought in the Revolutionary War and lived in Berne. Some descendants include Truaxes, Weggoners, Andersons, Roaches, Hallenbecks, Martins, Quays, Saddlemires, and more.

I would like to replace this stone and wondered if some descendants would be interested in contributing to this project. I would certainly appreciate it. I can be reached at (518)355-6948 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
