Phyllis Jean Purcell

EAST BERNE —  Phyllis Jean Purcell of East Berne, a nurse who loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, died in peace at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. She was 90.

She was born in Albany on Aug. 7, 1926, the daughter of the later Earl David and Bertha Krichbaum Bailie. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Purcell.

She graduated from Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She worked as a nurse at Albany Medical Center for most of her career.

“She was a faithful member of the Helderberg Lutheran Church,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She was a loving mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.”

She is survived by her children, Colleen Schrefer, Joseph Purcell, Timothy Purcell, Patricia Todd, and Daniel Purcell, and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Helderberg Lutheran Church in Berne on Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
