Hyler traps pests 'in humane and effective way'
ALTAMONT — All Star Pest Solutions opened for business this month, but owner Jesse Hyler brings 15 years of experience to the job.
“We specialize in all phases of pest management,” Hyler said.
The company serves the greater Capital Region, and includes removal of nuisance animals. Hyler is a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator licensed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
“We do all our trappings in the most humane and effective way,” he said. He traps and releases nuisance animals like squirrels, skunks, and possums, he said, and euthanizes animals only if necessary.
Customers contact him more frequently for ants, termites, and bed bugs, he said.
“If you’ve got carpenter ants…it’s a concern. A lot of people don’t realize how much damage these insects can do to the structural integrity of the home,” Hyler said. “You don’t want to take it lightly when you see a couple carpenter ants.”
Hyler said that he offers free inspections and free estimates.
“If it’s not a big deal, it’s not a big deal,” he said. “If I feel it’s not a major pest situation, I’ll tell you.”
Hyler can also check homes for, or remove, stinging insects like yellow jackets.
“If you’re allergic, you don’t want to find out that way,” he said.
“I specialize specifically with bed-bug work,” he said. His experience includes work for the major housing authorities in the area, including in Albany and in Troy, he said.
Bed bugs require an extensive service protocol, Hyler said, which includes non-chemical and more traditional chemical procedures. With his experience, Hyler offered advice for travelers to avoid the epidemic spread of bed bugs in hotels.
Hotel guests should take care with their luggage, he said.
“Get it up high, off the floor. There are a lot of notification laws,” he said. Travelers can google the name of the hotel in which they are staying to see if bed bugs have been reported, he said.
His work has not caused an infestation of his own, he said.
“I’m very strategical with my movement — using arm strength to lift up furniture…as I’m servicing,” he said. “I’ve never brought anything home. As long as you know the biology and the habits, you’re going to take care of that pest issue.”
All Star Pest Solutions works predominantly with residential customers, but can also accommodate commercial clients.
“Our pricing is reasonable, and price competitive,” Hyler said. “Each situation is customized. Services start at $95.”
Rodent season is beginning now with fall’s cool temperatures, he said.
“Mice are starting to look…for a warm spot, and that’s going to be in people’s homes,” Hyler said. He offers a rodent-proofing system to remove them and prevent the same unwanted pests from re-entering the home, he said.
Bats also seek shelter in homes, and treatment varies according to each situation, Hyler said.
“What you do with bats, or with any pest issue, is you do a thorough inspection to identify entry points,” he said.
Hyler installs one-way tunneling systems at those entry points, he said. He can seal up the entry points in mid-August after any young have left the roost.
“The work is as good as your seal-up,” he said. Some homes, depending on age and condition, may require a full-perimeter seal-up. Services for severe bat issues can be costly, he said, because the job requires a lot of ladder work and repetition.
However, for residents who only have four or five bats that fly into their homes, “I’ll get them out,” he said.
Hyler offers customized one-time services, or long-term warranties for those who need services throughout a season.
All Star Pest Solutions wants 100-percent customer satisfaction “guaranteed or your money back,” he said. “I’m committed to providing quality service you can trust.”
