Robert Kenneth Woodward

Robert Kenneth Woodward, a retired purchasing agent who also relished his work as a part-time police officer, died on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.

He died the day after his brother, James B. Woodward, was buried.

They were both born in Albany and raised in Clarksville, sons of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Woodward. Both attended Bethlehem schools and both retired to Ellenton, Fla.

Robert Woodward lived most of his life in North Branford, Conn. He enjoyed a long career as a purchasing agent for Western Electric and Southern New England Telephone Company.

“A former volunteer firefighter and Elks Club member, Bob’s favorite role was always his part-time work as a police officer for the North Branford Police Department,” his family wrote in a tribute.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Nancy Berk and her husband, Dr. Ronald Berk, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Roberta Czarnecki and her husband, Mark, of Guilford, Conn., and Tom Woodward and his wife, Maria, of North Branford; his sister Ann Gepfert and her husband, Larry; his companion, Sandy Smerz; his former wife, Mary Lou Woodward; and grandsons, Daniel and Hunter Berk.

Services and burial will be private.
