EAST BERNE — John E. Crosier Jr., a veteran who deeply loved his family and served his community, was a lifelong resident of East Berne.

He died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. He was 88.

Son of the late John Sr. and Helen Rendo Crosier, he was the beloved husband of the late Mariana “Vicki” Crosier with whom he shared 64 loving years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2021.

“John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, on destroyers in the Pacific and Europe, and was honorably discharged in 1957,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Upon his return, John joined his parents running the Star Supermarket, which he later purchased and renamed The Village Pantry in East Berne.

“Retiring from the grocery store, John became a real-estate broker and ran Crosier Realty until he retired in 2010.

“John will be remembered as a man who deeply loved his family and the Hilltowns community of friends. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

“John also enjoyed sharing his talents with his community, which was evident in his 36 years serving on the Town of Berne Planning Board, as a charter member of the East Berne Fire Department, the East Berne Businessman's Association and many other community activities.”

John E. Crosier Jr. is survived by his son, Kevin (Barbara) Crosier, and his daughter, Karen (Raymond) Storm.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin (Laurel) Crosier, Claire Crosier, Ashley (Tony Koster) Durling, Amanda (Ryan) West, Kristen (Scott) Raffensperger, Nicole Storm, and Michelle (Rob) Miller. Additionally, he is survived by 13 great-grandchildren.

His wife, Mariana “Vicki” Crosier, died before him, as did his sons, Kenneth and Kyle Crosier, and his brother, George Crosier, and his sister, Madeline Magrew.

Calling hours and a prayer service were held on March 8 at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont with Rev. John Tallman officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie at a date to be announced.
