Helen Kinnally

ALTAMONT — “On Sunday morning, December 14, 2014, we lost our beautiful Helen,” wrote the family of Helen Kinnally in a tribute. “She left like the real lady she was, calm and sweet and knew how much she was loved.”

She was 90.

Mrs. Kinnally was born on Aug. 7, 1924 in Yonkers, New York, the daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Sophia Bogdan. She attended Catholic schools in Yonkers. Her early career was as a runway model in New York City.

She married David Kinnally when he returned from World War II. They raised their two children in their home in Yonkers and spent many hours entertaining their family and friends. “Her children’s friends were always welcomed,” her family wrote.

Mrs. Kinally was a gardener, seamstress, decorator, and piano player.

In 1972, the Kinnallys moved upstate and built their home in Altamont. When Mrs. Kinnally retired from the phone company, she was active in their church. She was a member of the Altamont Senior Citizens and was a volunteer for the Community Caregivers for many years.

She is survived by her son, Keith Kinnally, and his wife, Casey; her daughter, Susan Wein, and her husband, Bill; three grandchildren, Michael Kinnally, Peter Kinnally and his wife, Morgan, and Kate Wolf; five beloved great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband, David Kinnally, died in 1997. Her brothers and her sister died before her, too.

The family extends thanks to the Daughters of Sarah nursing family for its expertise and loving care in her last year.
