A walk to raise awareness about food allergies will be held on Sept. 9.

The application period to hold pheasant hunts sponsored by the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation has begun.

This program enables experienced hunters and others to obtain state-reared pheasants for use in sponsored hunts for youth, women, novices, veterans, and people with disabilities.

The Fresh Air Fund has been selected to be a part of  Hannaford Supermarket’s reusable bag program, designed to support local not-for-profit organizations.

Over 100 motorcyclists are expected to ride Saturday in the fifth annual poker run held by the American Legion Riders to help local veterans. Last year’s run raised $30,000.

In New York State, qualifying clothing and footwear purchases are exempt from state sales tax year-round. Many states offer sales-tax breaks leading up to the school year, but in New York State clothing and footwear are always exempt from the state’s 4-percent sales tax when they are sold for less than $110.
