Richard Amedure of Rensselaerville announced his candidacy Friday for the 46th State Senate District.

“I’m very disciplined and very determined,” said Amedure, a long-time member of the Rensselaerville Planning Board.

ALBANY COUNTY — Several skunks and raccoons with distemper, a contagious and serious disease, have been found in Albany, according to the Albany Police Department, which is urging residents to make sure their dogs are up to date on their canine distemper vaccinations.

Western New England University in Massachusetts has announced students achieving honors for the fall 2019 semester.
 

These local students were named to the President's List with a grade-point average of 4.0:

— Andrew Masullo of Altamont, majoring in the bachelor of science in civil engineering;

These local students were among 1,300 named to the Purchase college Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester, each with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher:

— Sarah Alden of Altamont, majoring in history, visual arts;

— Sean Gordon of Slingerlands, majoring in theatre and performance;

These local students have recently distinguished themselves:
 

— Elias Assimakopoulos of Schenectady, at State University of New York Potsdam, interns with Music Industry at 2020 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Show in Anaheim, California; and

The second season for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls’ and Voorheesville boys’ basketball teams started with a bang this week for play in the Section II, Class C bracket.

The Elliott House Thrift Shop on Route 81 in Norton Hill will be open for the 2020 season beginning Wednesday, March 18, weather permitting; it will close if the weather is inclement.

The hours at the Thrift Shop are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday,  and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
