ALBANY COUNTY — In a three-step system, Albany County has moved this week from “low,” where it was ranked all summer, to “medium” for COVID-19 hospital admissions.

Cover crops aren’t a strong investment through sales alone, but they improve the health of farm soil by, among other things, protecting against erosion and pests, ultimately making farms more resilient to climate change. A study has found that New York’s public funding has been successful in encouraging farmers to grow cover crops on their farms.

“We proposed combining,” said Nancie Williams of JEM Inc., explaining that Guilderland — through her agency — would take over administration of the program while people in Knox will still have access to the program, using available rental units in Guilderland as a resource.

ALBANY COUNTY — On Sept. 20, the Biden administration announced it would once again set up a system so that free at-home tests for COVID-19 can be delivered through the United States Postal Service.

They stood together at a press conference on Sept. 20, hosted by Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy who said, “It’s about taking a chance because what we’re doing isn’t working.”

Most small-game hunting seasons open on Saturday, Oct. 1, across New York state. 

Free naloxone, as well as fentanyl and xylazine test strips, can be ordered through a new ordering portal on the Office of Addiction Services and Supports website. The agency also offers free virtual naloxone training.

An estimated 25 to 30 million adults without health insurance in the United States are to have the cost of the new vaccine covered by a bridge program that runs out in December 2024.

ALBANY COUNTY — The National Weather Service on Friday afternoon issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Albany County.

At 3:06 p.m., the service said, as indicated by radar, a severe thunderstorm was located over Guilderland, moving northeast at 20 miles per hour.

“Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue across some areas on Thursday where another heat advisory will likely be needed,” said the National Weather Service on Tuesday evening. “In addition, there is a chance of thunderstorms Thursday through Sunday, mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours.”
