Voorheesville School Board member Michael Canfora resigned at the end of October; there’s now a push to make the replacement process a public one.

NEW SCOTLAND — The victory was tighter than in years’ past, but Democrats William Hennessy and Bridgit Burke maintained the party’s decades-long unbeaten streak in town-board elections on Tuesday. 

The Mountainview Evangelical Free Church in Voorheesville began as a Bible-study group 40 years ago. Thirty years ago, the study group got its own church, and, in September, amid dwindling membership, the church shut down. 

The Voorheesville boys and girls opened Class C sectional soccer play on the right foot last week. The boys, the top seed, faced off against Schoharie on Saturday in the quarterfinals while the girls, seeded second, played Berne-Knox-Westerlo, the 18th seed, on Friday afternoon.

The budget crisis that embroiled the Voorheesville Central School District last year appears at the moment to be solved, after the district increased its monthly prescription-drug premiums.

Contemporary Christian artist Dave Pettigrew will be at at Saint Matthew’s Church on Nov. 10, for a concert to benefit local addiction and recovery agencies.

Winding down the regular season, the Voorheesville girls — rained out last Thursday — traveled to Cohoes on Sunday to end the regular season with a 3-to-2 overtime victory.

In back-and-forth court filings over the disclosure of an investigation in player bullying allegations, Robert Baron, who claims he was fraudulently induced to resign as head coach of the Voorheesville varsity girls’ basketball team, says the investigation includes information that would help his case; the Voorheesville Central School District claims that state and federal law allow the results of the investigation to remain confidential.

Two Democrats and two Republicans square off for two seats on the New Scotland Town Board on Nov. 5.

The old railroad bridge that runs over Route 85 in Slingerlands and is now part of the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail is due to be replaced by the summer of 2020.
