The joys of Christmas came early to the residents of Altamont last Sunday. Santa, at left, got off his train to greet villagers and give kids high fives as he made his way to a box car to listen to their wishes. His arrival culminated the daylong Victorian Holiday celebration, the 13th put on by Altamont Community Tradition, which this year included four winter markets and a house tour that attracted over 200 people.

The day also saw two goats in Santa suits, from Victoria Acres, locking horns on Maple Avenue, along with costumed cats and dogs.

A Festival of Trees brightened the Masonic Temple and, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, under the tutelage of Mrs. Red Shoes, also known as Barbara Bennett, kids made crafts — like this girl’s foam glider — they could take home.

At the Altamont Reformed Church, The Nativity was re-enacted, complete with animals. Bruce Williams stands proudly with a llama as he portrays one of the Magi.
