BKW wrestling places fourth in host tournament
Cody Fisher, at 138 pounds, and Rob Hass, at 152 pounds, won wrestling titles for Berne-Knox-Westerlo last Saturday during the Bulldog Invitational in Berne, which featured 10 teams. Fisher was named tournament MVP, the first Bulldog wrestler ever to do so, and Hass won the Toughest Dog in the House award.
BKW finished fourth behind Catskill, Amsterdam, and winner Chenango Valley. Reaching the finals for the Bulldogs and finishing second were Sal Audino, at 99 pounds, and Devin McGill at 145. Placing in the top six were Steven Degroff at 126 pounds, Shane Long at 145, Nate Weiss at 152, Justin Sprung at 160, and Casey Wise at 170.

Monkey on his back: Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Justin Sprung is caught under the grasp of Cairo-Durham’s Liam Gleason during the 160-pound first-round match of the Bulldog Invitational wrestling tournament in Berne last Saturday. Gleason pinned Sprung in 2:30 as Sprung went on to finish in fifth place by pinning Michael Rieken of Amsterdam. Cody Fisher, at 138 pounds, and Rob Hass, at 152 pounds, were champions of their classes.

Looking for leverage: Michael Bischert of Berne-Knox-Westerlo has Ivan Gomez-Martinez of Ichabod Crane wrapped up at the Bulldog Invitational wrestling tournament last Saturday during the 132-pound first-round match; Bischert pinned Gomez-Martinez in 4:09. Bischert went on to place 10th after being pinned by teammate Jake Wideman in 42 seconds.
