Photos: Making a Splash

The Guilderville and Duanesburg-BKW swim teams showed off their skills during last weekend's Division 1 and Division 2 sectional championship at Shenendehowa High School in efforts to win sectional titles and qualify for state competition. Guilderville, a team made up of Guilderland and Voorheesville swimmers, tied for seventh place with 140 points. The team made up of Duanesburg and Berne-Knox-Westerlo swimmers finished in sixth place with 216.5 points.

Winning the sectional title in the 100-yard breaststroke was Guilderville’s Kasey Keaney on Saturday with a time of 1:05.48. Here, Keaney swims in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday afternoon in the preliminary heats where she finished first in her heat with a time of 2:07.60; finished second in Saturday’s “A” final with a time of 2:08.03. Keaney is qualified for states in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke and is part of the 200-yard medley relay.

Resting comfortably: Guilderville’s Erin Wadsworth swims in Friday’s 500-yard freestyle preliminary heat. Wadsworth finished in sixth with a time of 5:35.11. Then, in the “B” final on Saturday, she finished 15th with a time of 5:34.61. Wadsworth is part of the 200-yard medley relay team that will compete at states.

Head turning: Maris Mitchell swims for Duanesburg-BKW in the preliminary heat for the Division 2, 200-yard freestyle on Friday morning. Mitchell finished fourth in her heat with a time of 2:17.92. Then, on Saturday in the “B” final, she finished 10th with a time of 2:13.37.

What are you looking at? Guilderville’s Olivia Farney competes in the 200-yard freestyle preliminary heat on Friday afternoon. Farney finished in eighth place with a time 2:18.80 and was 36th in the section.
