Photos: Birds battle: Boys upset win, girls fall in semis
In the Class B sectionals, the Voorheesville Boys soccer team made a statement it's in it to win it by upsetting the top team in the class Broadalbin-Perth on Tuesday, October 25, while the girls team made it all the way to the semifinals and lost to last years state champion Schalmont on Wednesday October 26.

Netting the winner: Voorheesville’s Sean Nolan, right, battled Broadalbin-Perth’s Preston Taylor to head up the field during the first half of the Class B sectional semifinal at Mohonasen High School. Nolan scored the winning goal with 13:30 to go in the game; his teammate Braden Racey scored the first goal. The Blackbirds play Ichabod Crane for the Class B title on Saturday at noon at Colonie High School.

Celebration! As Voorheesville’s Sean Nolan, John Moreau, and a fan jump for joy, players from Broadalbin-Perth walk off the field dejected after the Blackbirds won, 2 to 1, in the Class B sectional semifinal at Mohonasen High School. Broadalbin-Perth was ranked first in the state.

Off on the right foot: Voorheesville’s Rebecca Gregg looks to pass the ball up the field during the first half of the Blackbirds’ 7-to-0 win over Broadalbin-Perth in the Class B sectional opening-round game at home on Friday afternoon. On Monday, at the quarterfinal matchup, the Blackbirds won but on Wednesday, for the Class B semifinal match, Voorheesville lost, 3 to 0, to Schalmont, the defending state champion. The game was played at Stillwater High School.
