Photos: Sacked in Sectionals

Guilderland and Voorheesville were on the road for their sectional quarterfinal matchups last Friday and Saturday. Both football teams had a rough time against their opponents.

For the third year in a row, the Guilderland Dutchmen faced off against Shaker Blue Bison, at Shaker High School. Running like a man possessed, Guilderland’s Joe Park carries the ball while a Shaker player hangs on to Park as he runs up the field. Park had 100 yards on 14 carries and had five catches for 57 yards.

Gaining yards: Guilderland's Jared Schwartz starts to fall after being tripped by a Shaker player in the first quarter of Guilderland’s 27-to-16 loss in the Class AA sectional quarterfinal at Shaker High School last Friday night. Schwartz had 40 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns to go along with 69 yards on six catches.

No room to work: Guilderland’s Mason Leto attempts to run to open space so he can pass the ball but gets sacked by the Shaker player who’s holding onto Leto as he runs. Leto had 18 completions on 33 attempts for 175 yards but two costly interceptions.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds faced Holy Trinity in Rotterdam last Saturday in the Class C sectional quarterfinal. With four players unavailable to play due to a violation of team rules, the young Blackbirds had a tough time getting into the end zone. Voorheesville's Jacob Rychcik has the ball punched out by Holy Trinity’s Nelon Priest on the first play for the Blackbirds. Holy Trinity picked up the ball and scored a touchdown. Voorheesville committed four critical turnovers, two fumbles, and two interceptions in the 42-to-0 Class B sectional quarterfinal loss last Saturday.
