Shepherds and Wolves: Lynnwood Elementary fifth-grade teacher Tim Fry, facing the camera, can now add board-game inventor to his résumé. He demonstrates his board-game template to Farnsworth Middle School student Sophie Smolen at the school’s Oct. 5 craft and vendor fair. Fry is on Kickstarter seeking backers to produce a prototype of “Shepherds and Wolves,” a board game for anyone age 4 and older that he says involves luck, offensive and defensive play, and a little more strategy than checkers. He came up with the idea while he was teaching a summer camp on board games, Fry says. One player plays the wolves who try to catch the sheep, and the other plays the shepherds who try to protect the sheep and remove the wolves from the board. Fry designed the template’s board, game pieces, and box and is seeking $3,500 to be able to produce 100 copies that he can take to craft fairs to sell while making a small profit. His deadline is Oct. 25. Backers will only be charged, and Fry will only get the money, if he reaches the goal by then. People who pledge $30 or more, plus shipping, will receive a copy of the game in October 2020 if Fry meets his goal. As of Oct. 8, Fry had reached $2,050, or 58 percent of his goal, with 17 days left to go. For more information, go to www.kickstarter.com and search “Shepherds and Wolves.”
