In praise of legislators: Senator George Amedore, second from left, and Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, next to him, shepherded through bills to give a one-year segmented tax rate to Guilderland residents on the outskirts of town who were hit with unusually large school tax hikes last year after Guilderland’s state-set equalization rate plummeted. They are listening to Diane Reilly who helped to organize a block party Saturday. Listening on the other side of the lectern is William Young, chairman of an ad hoc Committee of United Taxpayers, which fought for the tax reduction, and beyond him is Kelly Flannigan. Guilderland Supervisor Peter Barber listens at far left.
