The Guilderland Flying Dutchmen cross-country teams, both male and female, lived up to their name, using speed and endurance in the 48th annual Guilderland Invitational at Tawasentha Park on Saturday morning. Flying, indeed. Attendance was down from the dozens of teams that used to participate; another meet was scheduled for the same day in Voorheesville. Eleven teams ran at Tawasentha this year, including one stalwart from Canada. The Guilderland girls won the varsity title with a score of 27 and the boys’ team finished second with 39 points — 19 points behind defending state champions in Class B, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

It’s a mad dash as Guilderland and the other teams race to the first corner of the 2.86-mile course. The top three Guilderland boys, bottom left — Noah Tindale, Nicholas Soldevere, and Sean O’Brien — run together at the start of their race. O’Brien finished seventh with a time of 15:28.
