The golf season got an early start, before school opens, as Guilderland and Voorheesville varsity golf teams hit the links to get ready for sectionals at the end of the season on August 23.

Tuesday morning, the Blackbirds lost, 167 to 197, at the Country Club of Troy. The Birds got right back at it on Wednesday morning at Albany Country Club in Voorheesville. With a powerful backswing, Voorheesville’s top player, Charlie Kaffka, prepares to launch the ball on the opening hole. Kaffka shot a 42 in the Blackbirds’ 180-to-198 loss to LaSalle.

The Dutch kicked off its season at home against the defending sectional champion, Bethlehem, at the Western Turnpike Golf Course in Guilderland, and lost in a close match, 230 to 238. Guilderland’s Sydney Hillenbrandt, the only girl on the varsity team, hits from the tee. Hillenbrandt shot a 48.
