On Tuesday morning, the opening day of the Altamont Fair, the annual Miss Altamont Fair pageant was held at the Northrup Stage to crown the new court of young ladies.

With a helmet for a crown, Meaghan Brennan from Guilderland, a volunteer firefighter, wins the Miss Altamont Fair title on Tuesday, opening day of the fair. Over the years, other categories have been added, with two new ones this year, bringing the total to seven; 35 competed, modeling fancy dresses as well as outfits that showed their interests.

Powerful woman: Elizabeth Krywanczyk from Green Island, wears pink boxing gloves to win the inaugural Mrs. division, for married women 18 and older; she bested two others.

Smiling ear to ear: Alora Paddon from Rotterdam is crowned Junior Miss, for girls ages 14 to 16, by last year’s Miss Altamont Fair, Gigi Diffenback. In a dead-even heat, Paddon won against her first alternate, Shannon Reilly of Rotterdam, with the tiebreaker being their interview scores.

Dancing Queen: Nikki McGinnis from Schenectady, middle right, shows how she teaches dance to kids like Morgan Donovan who does a flip in front of her. McGinnis was uncontested in the new Ms. division for unmarried women 26 and older; her daughter Ashlee participated as well, in a younger division.

Pretty princess: Ellie Leszczynski from Rotterdam won over six other girls in the Young Miss division, for girls ages 8 to 10.

McGinnis tied with Voorheesville’s Caroline Hunt. The tiebreaker was the
interview portion but McGinnis and Hunt tied there too, so it was determined a
tie.
