The brotherhood of firefighters were among 140 golfers registering for the fifth annual Douglas Lawton Memorial Golf Outing on Wednesday, July 17, at the Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont before the golfers dodged raindrops throughout the morning. The big storm held off until the golfing was over and the celebratory meal had begun. Nancy Lawton, Douglas Lawton’s widow, is at the far end of the table, helping with registration.

Teeing off: With the Helderberg escarpment as a backdrop, golfers hit from the 13th tee at Orchard Creek. The event is held annually in honor of Douglas Lawton, who died of colon cancer in 2014. Funds this year went to the volunteer fire department in Guilderland Center, of which Lawton was, like his father before him, a long-time member, and to the Veterans Miracle Center in Albany.
