Photos: Guilderville Makes Splashes To States

On Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18, the Guilderville boys’ swim team competed in the Section 2 swimming championships at Shenendehowa High School. The team finished fifth overall with 253.5 points and qualified three individual swimmers and two relay teams for states.

Casual swim: Guilderville’s Thomas Zeliph performs the backstroke portion in the 200-yard individual medley preliminary race. Zeliph finished seventh in his heat and 21st overall with a time of 2:12.81.

Making waves: Guilderville’s Brodie Steele gets a breath as he swims fast in the 100-yard freestyle. Steele finished sixth in his heat and 19th overall with a time of 53.23.

Coming to the finish: Guilderville’s Jason Zeliph turns his head for a breath as he comes towards the end of his 100-yard freestyle heat. Zeliph finished second with a time of 50.25 and then on Saturday finished seventh on Saturday overall with a time of 50 seconds.

Pacing himself: Guilderville’s Demetrio Schiavone looks to get a breath of air as he swims in the 500-yard freestyle heat. Schiavone finished sixth in his heat and 29th overall with a time of 6:15.61.

Off and swimming: Guilderville’s Eric Ryan leaps from the starting block as Jason Zeliph touches the wall in the 200-yard freestyle Relay. The relay team won the heat with a time of 1:29.29 and won the sectional title and New York State qualifying time of 1:28.11.

Water a flying: Guilderville’s Bao Nguyen swims towards the finish in the 100-yard backstroke preliminary. Nguyen finished in second in his heat with a time of 57.16 then on Saturday finished seventh overall with a time of 57.12.

Lift off: Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic pushes off the starting block as he gets ready to land in the water in the 100-yard breaststroke. Brkanovic finished second in his heat with a time of 1:00.76 then on Saturday finished third overall and a New York State qualifying time of 1:00.44.

Coming in fast: Guilderville’s Vincent Coppola picks up speed in the 200-yard freestyle championship on Saturday. Coppola finished second with a time of 1:45.40 and qualified for states in the event and the 100-yard freestyle.
