Miniaturized: Kids get up close to see the White House made of Lego blocks while a boy holds a brochure describing nine other national monuments on display, including the Statue of Liberty, the United States Capitol, Mount Rushmore, the Liberty Bell, and the Lincoln Monument. The Lego Americana Roadshow will be at Crossgates Mall until Feb. 24.

Towering ambition: A girl stands on the tip of her toes to place a Lego block on the top of her tower in the build-and-play area at Crossgates Mall. The Danish company that invented the world-famous building blocks a half-century ago is currently working on a way to manufacture the blocks from plant-based or recycled material rather than using petroleum-based plastic.
