Photos: States Await Local Wrestlers

Nine local wrestlers — five from Guilderland and four from Berne-Knox-Westerlo — wanted their tickets punched last weekend at the Glens Falls Civic Center to head to the Times Union Center in Albany for a state championship on Feb. 26 and 27. 

The Enterprise — Michael Koff 

The top Guilderland wrestler, David Wolanski pins James Clark from Averill Park in 1 minute and 19 seconds, but lost to Danny Jada from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in the quarterfinals and the consolation finals to finish fourth in the 126-pound weight class. Guilderland finished in 18th place with 16 points.

​Elation in the semis: Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Devin McGill hugs his coach, Jeff Vogel, after his semifinal win in the 138-pound weight class over Charlie Grygas from Duanesburg by a score of 11 to 8 before falling in the finals to Josh Bressette of Whitehall-Fort Ann, 11 to 4 to finish second.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Rob Haas finished second. Haas, in the 160-pound weight class, attempts to pin his semifinal opponent, Ryan Martin, from Schoharie. Haas won, 12 to 7, before falling to Jason Hoffman from Hadley Luzerne-Lake George in the finals, 16 to 0.

Also doing well for the Bulldogs, Jake Wideman finished in third place. Wideman won, 8 to 0, here against Joe Barrezueta from Catskill then beat Matt Osborne from Schalmont, 5 to 3, in the Consolation finals. BKW finished in 16th place with 56 points.
