Photos: Tickets Punched for Three Wrestlers

On Saturday, Feb. 12, seven Guilderland Dutchmen and three Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Middleburgh wrestlers competed against all Section 2 teams to earn a spot at the state competition later this month at the MVP Arena. Guilderland finished eighth with 80 points and BKW/Middleburgh finished 11th with 58.5 points.

Overhead flip: BKW/Middleburgh’s Liam English puts Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Austin Horender over his head in the Division 2 110-pound quarterfinal match. English won 7-1 then went on to win the section 2 title.

Feeling the pain: BKW/Middleburgh’s Gabe English bends the arm back of Salem-Cambridge’s Henry Dill in the quarterfinals of the 102-pound match. English won 10-1 then went on to win the Sectional title and qualify with his brother for the state competition.

Anxious: Guilderland’s Myles White attempts to break the hold of Amsterdam’s Carlos Montalvo in the quarterfinal match in the Division 1, 126-pound match. White lost 8-5 but battled back to finish sixth.

Lifted off his feet: Guilderland’s Dan Ralston gets taken off the mat by Shenendehowa’s David Ensminger in the quarterfinal division 1, 145-pound matchup. Ralston lost by pin in 50 seconds and didn’t place in the top six.

Pain all-around: BKW/Middleburgh’s Hunter Parker makes you feel the pain being put on Coxsackie-Athens’ Joseph Martinez in the division 2, 160-pound quarterfinal matchup. Parker lost 8-5 but battled back to finish fifth.

Pancake: Guilderland’s Dillon O’Brien lays on top of Shaker’s Donovan Deguire and tries to get Deguire on his back in the quarterfinal matchup in the division 1, 172-pound matchup. O’Brien lost 12-3 but battled back to finish in sixth.

Quick move: Guilderland’s Vincent Morizio uses his speed to attempt to get to the lower half of Bethlehem’s Keith Heineman in the quarterfinal matchup in the division 1, 215-pound matchup. Morizio won 6-2 and finished in third by beating his teammate Antonio Cipullo.

Dragging back: Guilderland’s Zack Harrison attempts to drag down Shaker’s Rocco Szemplinski in the first period of the division 1, 285-pound quarterfinal matchup. Harrison won 9-1 and finished in fourth.

Did you say something? Guilderland’s Dillon Blanchard looks up at his coach as he attempts to get Saratoga’s Lorenzo Palleschi in the semifinals in the 189-pound division 1 semifinals. Blanchard won by pin in three minutes, two seconds and went on to win the class to qualify for states.
