All eyes on the ball: Guilderland Unified’s Kristian releases the bocce ball as he and his teammates, Alex, Nate, and Lexie, compete against Amsterdam’s second team in the championships on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Italian American Community Center in Albany. The Guilderland High School team, which played its inaugural game on Sept 29, competed in the first division with teams from Amsterdam, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, and Broadalbin-Perth. According to the Special Olympics, Unified Sports joins students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team and is based on the principle that training together and playing together is a way to build friendship and understanding.
