A drive-through baby shower: Members of the Old Hellebergh Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution — from left, Regent Angela Fabiani, Vice Regent Gwen Bondi, and Registrar Lorraine Whiting — deliver handmade baby sweaters, blankets, and layette items to members of the Christ Child Society, Albany/Guilderland Chapter: Jane Rey, Marge Mineau, and Paula Stone. Each year, the Christ Child Society provides 500 layettes, 500 comfort bags, and 1,000 books to agencies in 10 counties in New York State, and one county in Vermont. Layettes consist of a handcrafted blanket, sweater and hat, hooded bath towel, diapers, onesies, sleepers and receiving blankets. The comfort bags are handmade drawstring bags that contain a stuffed animal, crayons, coloring book, story book and personal-care items so that the child has something of his or her own under the most stressful circumstance in a shelter. The literacy project is twofold: reading to children and providing them with books. For more information about the Christ Child Society, email or call 518-813-6622.
